Fully established in 1984 to promote quality craftsmanship in Essex (in the U.K.) the Guild aims to bring together those genuine craft workers who either live or work in the County. Membership is not granted to those who import or sell craft goods made by others. Our membership currently stands at 170 covering over 70 crafts.
In order to fulfil the Guild aims, the Guild promotes its members and their craft activities in two ways. Firstly - Members craft details are published in an Annual Guild Directory which is issued FREE of charge and is available either by post (see below) or at Guild Events. Secondly the Guild arranges a number of craft events each year so visitors can meet and talk to our members, many of whom will be demonstrating their crafts.
Members offer a variety of Craft Services which are fully detailed in the Guild Directory. Whether you are looking for a speaker, a special present, need a repair done or find a swarm of bees, the Directory will put you in touch with someone who can help.
The Guild is happy to arrange with its members to demonstrate and sell their craft at events almost anywhere in Essex. Past experience has shown that since we know our members requirements re: space and set up etc., this arrangement saves a lot of work for organisers as they only have to deal with a committee member, not every craft exhibitor. So if you would like some of our Guild members to attend your event one year, why not get in touch with a member of the committee to discuss further. See above for committee members details.
The Guild is a non profit making organisation, and if there are any surplus funds raised from Guild events, they are donated to various Essex Charities and Groups. In 2005 we supported The Essex Air Ambulance, and the Little Havens Children's Hospice. In previous years we have donated to The Essex Air Ambulance, Farleigh Hospice Chelmsford, The Essex Wildlife Trust, Braintree M.S. Group, the R.N.L.I. along with Essex Scout and Brownie Groups, to name but a few. We have taken the decision to make the Essex Air Ambulance Service our main charity during 2007.
