Formed in 1984 the Guild Celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2009. The Guild was established to promote quality craftsmanship and to bring together those genuine craft workers who live or work in the county of Essex in the United Kingdom.

Guild Membership is only open to those meeting the above criteria, and that hand make their craft. (Should a member move to another area of the U.K. then providing they still work in Essex, membership is not terminated.) Membership is not available to those who live abroad or who hold a craft franchise or who import or sell craft goods made by others.

MEMBERSHIP

Guild Membership - This is granted to individuals who meet the above criteria, and whose work is of a high enough standard to have passed the Guild's annual selection process.

Guild Friends - are individuals interested in Craft & who wish to support the Guild.

Associate Membership - for craft groups in Essex who have similar aims to those of the Guild.

More information about membership and how to join will be found on the 'Join Us' page.

The Main Aim of the Guild is to promote, encourage and support Guild Members and to stimulate a wider and more informed appreciation of craft. To this end the Guild publishes an annual Directory of members describing their work & advises how to get in touch with members. It also advises what services members offer, i.e. will speak to groups, offers repairs, accepts commissions for special presents and advises organisers which members exhibit at events etc. Many members are happy to demonstrate their craft at events, which adds interest for show visitors.

The Annual Guild Directory is available FREE of charge. For your copy and/or to be added to our annual mailing list, please phone Guild Directories on 01376 322047.

The Guild is a Non Profit making organisation, and donates surplus funds raised from or at Guild events to various Essex Charities and Groups. Our main charity is the Essex Air Ambulance because this supports everybody in Essex. In 2008 we donated £3000 and helped raise a further £600 by inviting them to our event at Cressing Temple Barns, Nr. Braintree. In the past we have also donated and supported the Little Havens Children's Hospice, Farleigh Hospice, Essex Wildlife Trust, Braintree Multiple Sclerosis group, the R.N.L.I. the CHARMS charity (which helps and supports M.S. sufferers), and the Essex Scout and Brownie groups, to name but a few.

All press enquiries should be directed to the Press Officer, Gill Carpenter at 01621 859060 or e-mail Gillian.mariner@btinternet.com
